What Is Salik?
Salik is Dubai’s automated toll-collection system — the name means “clear and moving” in Arabic. A Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag fitted to your car is detected automatically as you pass a tollgate, and the toll is deducted from your prepaid Salik account balance. There’s no need to stop or slow down.

1. Salik Website
The quickest option if you don’t want to log in: visit salik.ae, click “Check My Balance” in the top navigation, then enter your mobile number, plate type, and plate number to see your balance instantly.
If you’d rather see full account details — balance, vehicle info, and account number together — click “Sign In” instead, log in with your account and PIN, and go to your Account Dashboard.
2. Smart Salik App
Download the official app — App Store / Google Play — log in or register, open your Profile section, and tap “Check My Balance.”
3. RTA Website
You can also check your balance through the RTA website. Click “Check Salik balance” in the navigation menu, then choose “By Account” (enter your Salik account number and PIN) or “By Plate” (Dubai private plates only — enter your mobile number and plate number), and click Search.
4. Salik Kiosks
Salik kiosks are available at toll-gate locations across Dubai. Select your language, tap “Check Salik Balance,” then enter your account number and PIN to see your balance on screen.
5. Salik Call Center
Call 800-72545, select your language, then log in with your account number and PIN to hear your balance. If you don’t know your account number, look it up first by signing in on the Salik website.
6. SMS
Sending just your account number and PIN with no command word will fail — SMS to 5959 needs the correct syntax. Two formats work:

Send either to 5959 from your registered mobile number, and you’ll get your balance back by SMS within minutes. This is a premium outgoing SMS, priced at roughly AED 0.30 — on top of whatever your carrier normally charges for outgoing texts.
Current Salik Toll Rates in Dubai (2026)
Salik moved from a flat toll fee to variable pricing on 31 January 2025, and a 5% VAT was added on top of all toll charges from 1 June 2026. The rates below already reflect that:

A new Salik tag costs AED 100 at a petrol station or outlet (AED 50 for the tag itself plus AED 50 in prepaid balance), or AED 120 if you order online (tag, prepaid balance, and delivery included).

What Happens If Your Salik Balance Runs Out?
If you pass a gate without enough balance, Salik charges a fine of AED 50 per day, but you get a 5-working-day grace period (excluding weekends and public holidays) to top up before that charge applies. Fines are capped at AED 10,000 per vehicle per calendar year, under rules that took effect 28 June 2024.

Does Salik Balance Expire?
Your Salik balance itself doesn’t expire on a fixed schedule, but an account left completely inactive for 5 years forfeits any remaining balance — so it’s worth using or topping up your account periodically rather than letting it sit untouched for years.
