The UAE Job Seeker Visa lets you enter the country to look for work without a sponsor or a job offer in hand. It comes in three single-entry durations — 60, 90, or 120 days — and which government authority you apply through depends on where you plan to job-hunt: GDRFA Dubai if it’s Dubai, or ICP for the other six emirates. Base government fees start at AED 200 plus a refundable AED 1,000 security deposit.

Which Authority Handles Your Application: ICP or GDRFA Dubai?
This trips a lot of applicants up because most guides only mention one of the two. The UAE actually runs this visa through two separate portals, split by emirate:
- Planning to job-hunt in Dubai? You apply through the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai (GDRFA Dubai), via its own smart services portal or an Amer service centre.
- Planning to job-hunt in Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, or Fujairah? You apply through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP), via the ICP Smart Services website.
Both routes offer the same three durations and broadly the same eligibility rules — the difference is which authority actually processes your application, so make sure you’re on the right portal before you start filling in a form.
UAE Job Seeker Visa Fees (60, 90 or 120 Days)
According to GDRFA Dubai’s own published service fees, the direct government cost is:
| Visa Duration | Base Fee | VAT (5%) | Security Deposit (refundable) | Warranty Service Fee |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 60 days | AED 200 | AED 10 | AED 1,000 | AED 20 |
| 90 days | AED 300 | AED 15 | AED 1,000 | AED 20 |
| 120 days | AED 400 | AED 20 | AED 1,000 | AED 20 |
The AED 1,000 security deposit is refundable when you leave the UAE or convert to a work visa — it isn’t a fee you lose.
That table covers the direct government charge. In practice, most applicants pay more than that once a typing centre, Amer service charge, or medical insurance is added — commonly reported all-in totals sit around AED 1,495 (60 days), AED 1,655 (90 days), and AED 1,815 (120 days). Treat the government fee table above as the fixed baseline and the AED 1,500–1,800+ range as a realistic estimate for total out-of-pocket cost — always confirm the exact final amount on the ICP or GDRFA smart-services portal before you pay, since channel fees can vary.
Who Qualifies for the UAE Job Seeker Visa?
You need to meet one of two eligibility routes, plus a couple of baseline requirements.
Route 1: MOHRE Skill Level 1, 2 or 3
Your intended occupation needs to fall under one of the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation’s (MOHRE) top three skill levels:
- Level 1 — legislators, managers, and business executives
- Level 2 — professionals in scientific, technical, and human fields (doctors, engineers, scientists, and similar)
- Level 3 — technicians and associate professionals in scientific, technical, and humanitarian fields
All three levels require at least a diploma or degree, and some professions additionally require a license from the relevant UAE authority.
Route 2: Graduate of a Top-500 University
If your occupation doesn’t fall under Levels 1–3, you can still qualify by having graduated — within the last 2 years — from a university ranked in the world’s top 500 according to the UAE Ministry of Education’s (MOE) own classification. The MOE doesn’t publish which single ranking table (QS, THE, Shanghai, etc.) it uses, so rather than guess, check your specific university directly through the MOE’s approved-universities lookup service.
Other Requirements
Either route also requires:
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent
- Proof you can financially support yourself for the visa period (a bank statement/proof of funds is part of the document list below)
- A passport valid for at least 6 months
Documents You’ll Need
- Recent passport-style photo
- Passport copy (valid 6+ months)
- Health insurance
- Proof of funds / account statement
- Return flight ticket
- Attested qualification certificate — official UAE requirements just say “attested,” but in practice this typically means the standard chain: attestation by your home country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then by the UAE Embassy in that country, before it’s accepted in the UAE. Get this done well before you apply, since an unattested certificate is a common reason applications get held up.
- CV, cover letter, and proof of professional experience — useful once you’re actually interviewing, not required for the visa application itself
How to Apply for the UAE Job Seeker Visa Online
These are the ICP Smart Services steps (Dubai applicants follow the equivalent flow on GDRFA’s smart services portal or via an Amer centre):
- Go to the ICP Smart Services website (or GDRFA’s smart services portal if you’re applying for Dubai).
- From the menu, select Public Service, then Explore Job Opportunities.
- Choose your visa duration (60, 90, or 120 days) and click Start Service.
- Fill in your details and attach your documents.
- Review your application information for errors.
- Pay the application fee.
You’ll receive a Request Number once your application is submitted, which you’ll need to track its progress. You can also apply in person at an ICP Customer Happiness Centre, a GDRFA Amer centre, or a verified typing centre.
Processing time: GDRFA’s own published service standard is 48 hours. Other sources describe a similar 24–72-hour window for regular processing, with faster express options available for an extra fee.
How to Track Your Application
- Go to the ICP Smart Services website (or GDRFA’s smart services portal for a Dubai application).
- Click Public Service, then Explore Job Opportunities.
- Select Application Tracking for your visa type.
- Enter your email address and Request Number.
- Complete the CAPTCHA and search.
Your current application status will display once you’ve completed these steps.
Extending Your UAE Job Seeker Visa
If you need more time, GDRFA Dubai lets you extend a job seeker visa — but your total stay (original visa plus extension) cannot exceed a cumulative 180 days. A 60-day visa can typically be extended by up to another 60–120 days, and a 90-day visa by up to another 90 days, as long as the combined total stays within that 180-day ceiling; a 120-day visa has less room to extend since it’s already closer to the cap. Confirm your exact allowed extension length on GDRFA’s portal, since it depends on your specific original duration.
To apply for an extension:
- Online: through GDRFA’s smart services portal, or
- In person: at an Amer service centre
You’ll need your passport copy and a copy of your existing visit visa. The extension fee is AED 600 plus 5% VAT (with an extra AED 500 in-country fee, AED 10 knowledge fee, and AED 10 innovation fee if you apply from inside the UAE), and typically takes 2–4 working days to process.
Benefits of the Job Seeker Visa
- No job offer or UAE employer sponsor required to enter
- No separate work permit needed just to visit and interview
- Up to 120 days in the country to search, network, and interview in person
What Happens After You Land a Job?
Once you accept a job offer, your new employer takes over — they’ll apply for your actual UAE Work Permit on your behalf, and once that’s in place you’ll be eligible to apply for your Emirates ID as part of your residency setup. You cannot legally start working during the job seeker visa period itself — see the FAQ below.
FAQs
How long does it take to process a UAE Job Seeker Visa?
GDRFA Dubai’s own published standard is 48 hours. If you’ve paid for express service elsewhere, it can be processed in 12–24 hours; regular processing is typically 24–72 hours.
Can I start working as soon as I get a job offer?
No. It’s illegal to start working during your job seeker visa period. Once you accept an offer, your employer applies for your work permit — working before that’s issued can result in fines and deportation.
Do I apply through ICP or GDRFA?
It depends on where you’re job-hunting: GDRFA Dubai if it’s Dubai, ICP if it’s Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, or Fujairah.
Can I extend my UAE Job Seeker Visa if I need more time?
Yes, at least on the GDRFA Dubai side — but your total stay, original visa plus extension combined, cannot exceed 180 days. The extension fee is AED 600 plus VAT (plus extra in-country fees if applying from inside the UAE), and typically takes 2–4 working days.
Is the AED 1,000 security deposit refundable?
Yes. It’s refunded when you leave the UAE or convert the visa into a work/residence visa — it isn’t a fee you lose regardless of outcome.
Does my degree certificate need to be attested?
Yes — official requirements list an attested qualification certificate. In practice this typically means attestation by your home country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs followed by the UAE Embassy there, completed before you apply.
