A Naming Mix-Up Worth Clearing Up First
If you’ve searched for this before and landed on a broken or redirecting DHA link, here’s why: Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and Dubai Health are two separate organizations that happen to sound almost identical.
DHA is the regulator — it sets healthcare policy and licenses facilities, at dha.gov.ae. The entity that actually runs Dubai’s public hospitals and issues your MRN, called Dubai Health, is a 2023 rebrand of the former Dubai Academic Health Corporation, and its patient portal lives at a different address: services.dubaihealth.ae. That’s the one you actually need for MRN creation.
What an MRN Is, and Who Needs One
Your MRN is a unique number that ties your medical records together across DHA-licensed public facilities like Rashid Hospital and Dubai Hospital — doctors use it to pull up your history at any visit.
Every resident needs one to access public healthcare in Dubai, and even tourists or short-term visitors are issued one the first time they use a government facility.
Private hospitals and clinics (Aster, Mediclinic, and similar) don’t plug directly into Dubai Health’s MRN system. Instead, all public and private facilities in Dubai are required to connect to NABIDH (Network and Analysis Backbone for Integrated Dubai Health), the citywide health information exchange run by DHA. NABIDH links your clinical history across every connected facility using a Unique Health Identifier tied to your Emirates ID — separate from your MRN, though each private provider still keeps its own internal patient file too.
Creating Your MRN Online
- Go to the Dubai Health patient portal at services.dubaihealth.ae.
- Choose to log in with an existing account, or select UAE Pass for a faster route — make sure notifications are enabled in your UAE Pass app beforehand, since confirmation comes through there.
- If you don’t have an MRN yet, select the option to create one and enter your Emirates ID number.
- You’ll receive an OTP on the mobile number linked to your Emirates ID — enter it to verify.
- Your MRN is generated instantly on screen. Screenshot it or note it down; you’ll need it at every future visit.
Other Ways to Get Your MRN: App and DubaiNow
The web portal isn’t your only option. The Dubai Health app (Android and iOS, formerly listed as the “DHA” app before its late-2023 rebrand) covers the same MRN lookup and creation flow from your phone, alongside appointments, lab results, and prescriptions.
The DubaiNow app — Dubai’s general government-services app — has also offered MRN generation as one of its health services, authenticated through UAE Pass. Menu labels inside DubaiNow shift from time to time, so look under the app’s Health section if you don’t see it immediately.
Already Have One and Just Need to Find It?
If you’ve visited a DHA facility before, you likely already have an MRN — creating a new one isn’t necessary and can cause duplicate-record issues. Check first:
- Log into the Dubai Health portal or app with your Emirates ID — an existing MRN displays automatically rather than prompting you to create one.
- Check any past hospital discharge summary, appointment confirmation, or lab report — the MRN is usually printed near the top.
- Call Dubai Health’s patient support line on 800 60 if neither of the above works. DHA’s own contact centre, 800-342, is a separate line for regulatory and licensing matters, not patient/MRN support.
Tourists and Short-Term Visitors
Tourists and short-term visitors are issued an MRN too, generated from passport details rather than an Emirates ID, the first time they register at a Dubai Health facility.
This happens in person as part of facility registration, not through the online self-service portal — bring your passport with you.
Creating an MRN for a Newborn or Dependent
For children and other dependents who can’t complete OTP verification themselves, the process is done in person at the facility where the child is born or first registered, using the parent’s or guardian’s Emirates ID and the child’s birth certificate or passport.
This isn’t currently a self-service online step.
If Something Goes Wrong
- OTP not arriving: confirm the mobile number on record matches the one linked to your Emirates ID with ICP — a mismatch (e.g., after a SIM or number change) is the most common cause.
- “Emirates ID already linked to an MRN” error: this usually means you already have one from a previous visit — use the “find existing MRN” steps above instead of trying to create a second one.
- UAE Pass login not going through: check that notifications are enabled in the UAE Pass app itself, not just on your phone generally — confirmation prompts are sent there.
Once you have your MRN, you may also want to keep your digital Emirates ID accessible, since most DHA facilities ask for both at check-in.
